A resignation letter should be short — one page maximum, and often half a page is perfectly acceptable.
Aim for 2 to 4 Short Paragraphs
Your employer needs three things: that you are resigning, your last day, and a professional closing. That is all.
What to Cut
- Long explanations of why you are leaving
- Detailed accounts of your time at the company
- Complaints or grievances
What to Keep
- Your intent to resign — clear and direct
- Your last working day — specific date
- A brief, genuine thank you
- An offer to help with the handover
